Each electrode 28 of a 3-phase arc furnace is connected by a flexible cable 26 to a connection point at the top of a pole 14, each of the connection points being connected to a deltaconnected transformer secondary winding by a further flexible cable 13 or 24. The electrodes and the poles are supported by a member 15 carrying a swing roof. The cables 13 may be arranged in vertical pairs consisting of conductors of different phases, or these conductors may be arranged in concentric pairs. The cables 26 or the conductors in electrode arms 27 may be divided into parallel conductors in order to achieve symmetry.
