Abstract

1,166,148. Electric arc furnaces. UNITED STEEL COMPANIES Ltd. 29 May, 1968 [6 June, 1967], No. 26087/67. Heading H5H. In a three-phase arc furnace 24, the phase inductances are balanced, and the value of the inductance of the connections between the transformer secondary terminals 3 and the electrode holders 18, 19, 20 is reduced, by a symmetrical arrangement of the rigid electrode supply conductors 6-11, Fig. 5, and suitable bundling and arranging of the flexible conductors 4 connecting the terminals 3 with the supply conductors 6-11, Figs. 2, 2a (not shown). Conductors 6-11 are bus-tubes insulatingly supported on horizontal electrode arms 12, 13, 14, carried by vertically displaceable masts 15, 16, 17. Pairs of bus-tubes 6, 7 and 8, 9 and 10, 11 are connected electrically in parallel by cross-members 27, 28, 29 and the outer tubes lie in spaced vertical planes, while the centre tubes 8, 9 lie in a horizontal plane and symmetrically placed with respect to the other four tubes.
