Abstract

746,946. Photographic reversal images. KODAK, Ltd. Sept. 10, 1953 [Sept. 17, 1952], No. 23391/52. Class 98 (2). Photographic reversal images are formed by migratory transfer by contacting, in the presence of a silver halide solvent, an exposed and developed silver halide emulsion layer which contains developer, with a receiving layer containing a dispersion of zinc sulphide, selenide or telluride in an amount sufficient to react with only a part of the silver halide diffusing thereinto. The silver sulphide precipitated acts as development nuclei for the remainder of the silver halide diffusing thereinto. A diffusible developer may be contained in the silver halide emulsion layer, development being effected by treatment with an alkaline solution and the wet emulsion layer being then contacted with the receiving layer. The silver halide solvent may be contained in the receiving layer. In a modification the image-receiving layer and the silver halide emulsion layer are part of the same material. Thus, a paper support may be impregnated with the zinc compound and then coated with an unhardened silver halide emulsion layer. After development and treatment with a silver halide solvent or development with a developer containing a silver halide solvent, the emulsion is washed off. The entire operation may be carried out in the camera by rolling the exposed light-sensitive layer into contact with the receiving support with a bead of viscous developer in between, containing for example hydroquinone, sodium sulphite and a silver halide solvent such as ethanolamine. Specifications 614,155, 654,631 and 746,174 are referred to.
