745,485. Box-fastenings. COOKE, R. S. Oct. 18, 1954 [Oct. 27. 1953], No. 29610/53. Class 44. A fastener for boxes and the like of the type incorporating a pivotal lever c on a base-plate a is adapted to actuate a fastening link d and is characterized by an apertured sealing lip a<SP>2</SP> on the base-plate disposed entirely beneath the lever in its fastening position, and rendered accessible for wire or like sealing means by means of a channel c<SP>2</SP> in the lever which terminates in a slit c<SP>3</SP> and along which channel and through which slit the sealing wire or the like may be passed to the aperture in the lip for sealing purposes. A protuberance c<SP>4</SP> is raised from the lever, in the underside of which the lip is accommodated and the channel c<SP>2</SP> may taper. The base-plate a can be attached to a box, in which case the link d has a hook d<SP>3</SP> at its free end which engages the lid of the box to fasten it in position. As an alternative, the base-plate a is fastened to one end of a band and a plate e having teeth e<SP>1</SP> with one of which the hook d<SP>3</SP> can engage, is attached to the other end of the band. The pivot b for the lever and the pivot c<SP>1</SP> for the link are so arranged that when the link is fastened its pivot is in an over deadcentre position in relation to the pivot b.
