[Also in Group XX] The pivotally-connected ends 3a of the legs 3 of a pair of compasses or the like are similar in form, each having a shallow circular recess 3c in its inner face; a compressible washer 5 is placed in the recesses, and the parts are held together by a pivot-pin 4. The pin 4 may be a rivet, as shown, with washers 6 under its heads, or it may be screwthreaded. The washer 5 is preferably of vulcanized fibre, but it may be of metal of a concave-convex or other form providing compressibility.
