Abstract

745,244. Valves. HINGST, R. July 6, 1953, No. 18702/53. Class 135. In a valve comprising a fabricated, welded casing, e.g. a multiple valve steam-throttle for a locomotive actuated by a partially rotatable shaft 14, the seat 4 for the closure member 3 is mounted in the casing by an intermediate, resilient part 5 either integral with the seat 4 or, as shown in Fig. 1, separate from it and into which the seat is pressed. The arrangement enables distortion of the casing due to pressure or temperature of the controlled fluid to be taken up by the part 5 so that it does not affect the seat. The valve housing has inlet and outlet chambers 10, 12 respectively and a balancing chamber 11 in which pressure acts on a balancing piston 9. In a modification, the seat and integral resilient part 5 are carried by a ring 15, Fig. 3, welded in the casing, and resilience of the part 5 is obtained by an annular slot 16.
