Abstract
Oxidation dyestuffs are formed on textile fibres by the oxidation thereon of sodium-N4-phenyl-1 : 4-diaminobenzene-N1-sulphonate by means of the chlorate of a metal of the second group of the periodic classification, the atomic weight of which is less than that of strontium. The reaction is preferably initiated and effected in the presence of an acid-forming substance and an oxidation catalyst. The reactants are applied as a solution or printing paste. In examples, prints on cotton or viscose rayon fabrics are obtained by applying an aqueous composition containing the above sulphonate, calcium or magnesium chlorate, ammonium chloride, ammonium vanadate, ammonia and starch-tragacanth thickener, the fabric then being steamed with neutral steam, washed and boiled in soap solution. Specification 744,939 is referred to.
