Abstract
196,696. Calico Printers' Association, Ltd., and Fourneaux, E. A. Jan. 27, 1922. Resist printing.-Cotton fabrics are ornamented by first mercerizing with alkali, and then printing or padding with a paste consisting of a concentrated solution of calcium or other thiocyanate or thiocyanates thickened bv means of cellulose, acetyl cellulose, &c., to which oolouring- matters, pigments, &c. may be added. The fabrics are then, either after previous drying or not, exposed to the action of heat in the presence of moisture, by passing through steam &c., or a hot solution of calcium chloride, or a weak solution of hydrochloric acid. The fabrics are then washed, dried, and mercerized with alkali. The effects obtained by these processes may be enhanced by printing resists on the fabric. Such resists may consist cf starch paste, solutions of gums or alburnens &c., to which may be added pigments or dyestuffs with or without their usual assistants or mordants. The Specification refers to the use of cotton pulp, and to the use with starch paste of colours or pastes suitable for the ordinary crimping-processes, the colours being developed by subsequent ageing or steaming.
