Abstract

310,845. British Celanese, Ltd., (Assignees of Dreyfus, C., and Whitehead , W.). May 1, 1928, [Convention date]. Patterned effects on subsequent chemical or other treatment, weaving to produce; artificial silk, fabrics containing; printed fabrics.-A fabric is woven from yarns comprising organic derivatives of cellulose and having different degrees of resistance to delustring, so that after treatment with delustring agents such as wet steam, or hot soapy or other aqueous solutions, parts of the fabric are more lustrous than others. Thus, the warp may consist of a delustre-resistant yarn obtained by dissolving a specified acetone soluble cellulose acetate in a mixture of 78 per cent acetone and 22 per cent water, as described in Specification 320,363, [Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.], and the weft may consist of the same cellulose acetate dissolved in a mixture of 95 per cent acetone and 5 per cent water, which when spun produces an easily delustred yarn. The fabric may be woven so that the warp is mainly at the top and the weft at the bottom, so that after it has been boiled in a separate treatment, or in the scouring, dyeing, or finishing operation, a fabric which is lustrous on one side and matt on the other results. Lustrous or matt patterns may be produced by a jacquard and these patterns may be accentuated by printing coloured designs over them. The organic derivatives of cellulose that are used may comprise esters such as cellulose acetate, formate, propionate or butyrate or ethers such as methyl, ethyl or benzyl cellulose, or mixtures of these. In addition, the fabric may comprise yarns of cotton, silk, wool, linen or reconstituted cellulose. Cross dyeing may be used.
