Abstract
744,791. Filters. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. July 7, 1954 [July 13, 1953], No. 19318/53. Class 46. A portable filtering and transfer unit for liquids, e.g. oil, comprises a motor-driven pump 6 (Fig. 2) having a strainer 24 (Fig. 3) connected to its inlets and a fine filter formed by a perforated cylinder 10 (Fig. 1) surrounding a sleeve 11 of bolting silk connected to the delivery pipe 8. The strainer 24 is of metal gauze and is located in a chamber 2 having a non-return valve 26 leading to a priming chamber 27 and a flow indicator 4. The filter sleeve 11 is secured by garter rings 12 to the ends of the perforated metal supporting cylinder 10 and is surrounded by a perforated metal housing 13 and an outer imperforate metal casing 9 having a connection to the pump delivery duct 8. The ends of cylinder 10 are held against sealing washers 16 by a threaded bolt 19 passing through end caps 17, 17<SP>1</SP> of an outer housing having a clean oil coupling 23 connected by a channel 22 and a port 21 to the interior of the filter sleeve 11. The pump motor 7 is stopped automatically when a pressure switch 30 is actuated by a spring-loaded diaphragm 28, Fig. 5 (not shown) at high delivery pressure caused by blocking of the filter.
