Abstract

541,488. Filters. ZWICKY, J. F., and AIR PORT EQUIPMENT, Ltd. May 27, 1940, No. 9302. [Class 46] A filter element 17 is secured in position by rotation of a spindle 20 and further rotation of the spindle opens an inlet valve 8. When the spindle is rotated in the opposite direction the valve 8 is closed before the filter element is released. As shown the filter element is attached to a cover plate 18 of the casing 1. The spindle 20 extends through the plate 18, is provided with a hand-wheel 23 and is threaded to engage with a tube 15 attached to the valve 8. On turning the wheel 23 the cover plate is first tightened on to the casing and the valve 8 is then drawn from its seat against the tension of a spring 10. The liquid to be filtered enters the elements from a port 2 and the filtrate is discharged through a port 3. Two such filters may be used connected to a common main inlet and outlet. The outlet ports of the two casings are provided with non-return valves. Fig. 7 shows a device for indicating the position of the inlet valve 8. The valve spindle has an extension 32, projecting through a cover plate 31 a flexible diaphragm 33 and an outer cover 34, the extension or a cap 37 thereon serving to indicate whether the valve is opened or closed. Alternatively an electrically operated device may be used to indicate the position of the valve.
