744,658. Gas producer furnaces; shaft furnaces. KO-WE NIEDERSCHACHTOFEN GES. April 8, 1952, No. 2633/55. Divided out of 744,596, [Group II]. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). In a combined low shaft gas producer and boiler furnace, the producer A and the boiler furnace B have a wall in common formed with a gas port 10 and a combustion air port 9. A fuel hopper 1 feeds coal to a drying and tarremoving chamber 3 swept by some of the producer gas, which is removed by the offtake 2, cooled, and supplied to the boiler furnace. The depth of fuel in the producer is controlled by a perforated slide 8, and air is supplied through a tuyere 5. Iron ore may be mixed with the coal, and in this event slag and metal tap holes 6 and 7 respectively are provided. The height of the producer shaft is not greater than 10-12 metres.
