Abstract
743,348. Metal casting ladle. LOW MOOR ALLOY STEELWORKS, Ltd. May 11, 1954 [April 27, 1953], No. 11573/53. Class 82(1). [Also in Group XXII] Metal pouring apparatus comprises a holding vessel having an outlet nozzle in the form of a tube of refractory material of a wall thickness between 1/16 and “ inch and surrounded over at least part of its length by an air jacket or heat insulating material. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the nozzle 1 comprises a refractory tube, e.g. of mullite surrounded by an annular air space 3 which may be heated as by high frequency coils accommodated therein. The stopper 6 is a thin walled refractory tube or it may be of solid construction, and the metal stream is surrounded by a tubular protective sheath 8. In a continuous casting apparatus, Fig. 2, the nozzle 14 extends into the mould and is surrounded by a refractory sleeve 16. In a modification the nozzle is curved and arranged in a tilting, side-pouring tundish.
