Abstract

1280343 Casting apparatus P BAU and M SORNBERGER 3 July 1969 [3 July 1968] 33640/69 Heading B3F In a bottom-pouring casting apparatus, the trumpet 3 and runner 4 are made from bricks whose main ingredients are alumina and silica, the alumina content being 40% or more. It is preferred that the said bricks are made of sillimanite and have a thermal conductivity of more than 0À9 Kcal./m.h.‹ C. at 1000‹ C. The ladle 2 has a ring main 18 for supplying an inert gas to the air gap 16 between the outlet nozzle 15 of the ladle and the top of the trumpet 17. In operation, the molten steel flowing through the runner system is absorbed into the surface of the bricks and solidifies therein forming a steel skin which protects the bricks.
