Abstract
1,160,309. Foundry ladles. VESUVIUS CRUCIBLE CO. 21 March, 1967 [9 Jan., 1967], No. 13320/67. Heading F4B. In a conventional vessel for handling molten metal having an outlet nozzle 3, a rod 6 carrying a stopper 5 is surrounded by a protective refractory sleeve 7, the outer sheath 9 of which comprises a basic oxide material such as magnesia or calcia. As shown the sleeve 7 consists of an inner core 8 made of prefired refractory clay surrounded by the sheath 9 which alternatively may consist of a mixture of basic oxide, refractory clay and a binder. The sheath 9 is preferably formed in situ around the core 8 wherein a combustible tube 10 of, e.g. paper, cloth or plastic, is placed around the core 8 and the space therebetween filled with basic oxide material.
