Abstract

1,210,993. Temperature Measurement. HOESCH A.G. May 12, 1969 [May 29, 1968], No. 24091/69. Heading G1D. An apparatus for the continuous measurement of the temperature of a molten metal bath on a metallurgical vessel comprises a rod 3 of lightpermeable, temperature-resistant and corrosionresistant material e.g. quartz glass, which passes through a wall 1 of the vessel and is embedded inside the vessel in a composition 5 of high melting alkali-free oxides e.g. zirconium oxide or zirconium silicate, and a colour pyrometer disposed at the outer end of the rod. Quartz rod 3 is reheated in a thin steel tube 5, a protective sheath 7 being provided at the bottom end. The composition 5 is encased in a refractory tube 6 of a material compatible with refractory brick 2. The colour pyrometer is mounted on flange 10.
