Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the burnout of a porous refractory around a tuyere for blowing a refining and agitating gas into molten metal by blowing a protective gas from the gap between the refractory around the blowpipe of the tuyere and the blowpipe.
CONSTITUTION: A tuyere 1 has a nozzle part 2 and a header 3 attached to the base end of the part 2, and a refining gas is blown into a multiple refining furnace from the supply inlet 32a through the pipe 21. On the other hand, a protective gas enters the distribution chamber 37 from the inlet 32a from the peripheral direction, and part of the gas is blown into the furnace through the gap 24 between the pipe 21 and a porous refractory 22 under necessary pressure as if it encloses said refining gas in the furnace while cooling the pipe 21. The other part of the protective gas is fed to the base end side of the refractory 22 under pressure and blown into the furnace in the form of bubbles as if it encloses the farther outside of said refining gas in the furnace since the moving range is regulated by the jacket pipe 23. Thus, the blowing-back phenomenon of the refining gas is inhibited, the sticking of scabby solidified matter to the tuyere is prevented, and the thermal stress of the refractory around the tuyere can be relieved.
