Abstract
PURPOSE:To cause stirring and convection of stagnating molten steel, prevent solidification and perform stable casting work by injecting inert gas bubbles into the molten metal from the inner side of the side dams of a pair of water-cooled casting rolls. CONSTITUTION:A porous plug or blow pipe 7 is provided in the position where two sheets of solidified shells 12, 12' mate below the inside surfaces of molten steel side dams 4 constituted of refractory materials 4a and heat insulating materials 4b for preventing the leakage of molten steel to the outer side in the axial direction of a pair of water-cooled casting rolls 3, 3'. An inert gas 8 is blown into the molten steel 11 stagnating between a pair of the rolls 3, 3'. Then, the stagnating molten steel 11 causes stirring and conversion 15, by which the temp. distributions thereof are uniformalized and the formation of solidified shells is prevented.
