Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent nozzle clogging and deterioration of lining material by preheating the nozzle alone to above the specific temperature from the outside without preheating the inside surface of a tundish lined with the temporary lining material of refractory heat insulation characteristic.
CONSTITUTION: The inside surface of a tundish for continuous casting lined with temporary lining material of refractory heat insulation characteristic having been formed to a plate shape is not preheated and only the nozzle is preheated at a temperature above 500°C from the outside, after which molten metal is poured into the tundish. Preheating of the nozzle may be accomplished either by blowing the flame of a direct gas burner into the nozzle hole projecting downward from the bottom of the tundish or enclosing the surrounding of the nozzle with a box of refractory material and blowing the flame through the hole opened in the lower part of the box. These prevent damaging of the lining material owing to preheating and save the cost for preheating.
