Abstract

1334276 Continuous casting A ADAMEC and R LEDER 19 April 1971 [24 March 1970] 24890/71 Heading B3F An open-ended mould assembly for attachment to a melt vessel or to a melting or holding furnace 3 comprises a mould 1 of at least two longitudinal (e.g. upper and lower) parts (8<SP>1</SP>, 9<SP>1</SP>) secured in a (rectangular) ring 4 of thermally insulating material which presses the mould parts together, and in a cooling jacket 2. The ring 4 is made from one or more ceramic materials and is encircled by a metal frame 6 held in an extension 7 around the furnace outlet. Its length equals that of the molten core of the solidifying casting (strip). The mould 1 may be of porous graphite. It has oblique apertures 13 by its inlet 5, to permit release of gases and oxides.
