Abstract
743,242. Seamed joints. READ, J. N. July 10, 1951 [April 26, 1950], No. 10317/50. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XVII] In making a container with seamed joints, the joints are sealed with a coating of epoxyethane derivative resin. The resin may be obtained by using polymerizing agents, e.g. alkalies of organic bases, acid anhydrides or metals, or the reaction may be induced by moisture or by the container material. Varying proportions of such agents and of solvents may be used to form the coating. This may be applied to one or more of the metal faces to be seamed by hot or cold spraying, rollering, painting, dipping or silk-screen process, and may be sealed in a cured, partly cured or uncured condition. In a modification the whole of each metal part is coated, after degreasing, and tinning is not required. A mixture for spraying comprises the material known under the Registered Trade Mark " Araldite Resin 9852," 335 parts, methyl and ethyl acetate 80 parts, and diacetone alcohol 455 parts. The longitudinal joint of a cylindrical container is preferably welded before spraying on the resin.
