Abstract
A thermoplastic coating for adhesive tape may comprise 4 per cent by weight of a paraffin wax of a melting point of 135 DEG F. and 96 per cent by weight of a resin consisting of the reaction product of dimerized and trimerized linoleic and linolenic acids of soy bean oil with ethylene diamine, this resin having an average molecular weight of 3000 to 6500 and a softening point of 212-220 DEG F. The composition has a softening range of 170-180 DEG F. and can be applied as a hot melt to the tape. Another example has the formula: ethyl cellulose (22 c.p.s. 46.8-48.5 per cent ethoxy) 49.5 per cent by weight; dibutyl phthalate 15.0 per cent by weight; stearic acid 35.0 per cent by weight; ortho-tolylbiguanide 0.5 per cent by weight. This composition has an effective softening point of 150 DEG F. and can be applied as a solution, the solvent being trichloroethylene or a mixture of toluene and ethyl alcohol.
