[Also in Groups X and XXVIII] A fitting for connecting or stopping tubes, particularly for metal framework, scaffolding, handrails, fencing, and like purposes, comprises a socket 2 having an annular recess 4 into which a tube t<SP>2</SP> fits closely, and means such as grubscrews 6 for pressing the tube against the inner wall 4 of the recess. The socket may project radially from a sleeve 7 embracing a tube t<SP>1</SP>, to an intermediate portion of which the fitting is secured by a grub-screw 6a. Other forms shown include a sleeve having diametrically opposite sockets, an elbow having a through passage and sockets at each end, and an end cap.
