Abstract
742,817. Hydraulic lifting jacks. PRIMA INDUSTRIES, Ltd., and COLLINS, A. July 28, 1954 [May 18, 1953], No. 13822/53. Class 78 (3). A hydraulic vehicle jack is supported by a bi-pod. A screw-actuated piston 17 (Fig. 1) forces grease or heavy oil from a reservoir 132 through tubular struts 10 and base members 101 into the working chamber 131, and the piston 19 is provided with trunnions 21 extending through slots 134 and engaging a sleeve 20 which slides on the cylinder 13 and is provided with a pivoted crutch 22 adapted to engage a socket on the vehicle. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) only one strut 10 transmits fluid to the working space 131, the other strut being pivoted to the cylinder 13 at its upper end and has a toggle link connection with this cylinder at its lower end. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 7, the reservoir 31 communicates through ports 312 with an annular working space 34. In a modification (not shown), the rigid members 291 are replaced by toggle links and the struts 29 are pivoted at their upper ends to the cylinder 322. In a further modification, described in the Provisional Specification only, the piston 17 is screw threaded.
