Abstract
742,789. Cathode-ray tubes. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 12,1953 [June 12, 1952], No. 14776/52. Class 39 (1). In a cathode-ray tube the spot formed on the screen is elongated with its major dimension transverse to the picture lines when the focus control is adjusted to either side of an intermediate position. In the intermediate position where electrons approaching the screen in two planes at right angles focus at equal distances before and behind the screen, the spot is circular. In this position the current through spot elongating coils 1 and 2 is zero. On moving the focus control 4, 3 being the focusing coil, through the intermediate position, the current through coils 1 and 2 is reversed. Coils 1 and 2 may be in parallel with one another. A resistance may be inserted in the circuit in place of the coils, and the potential difference across the resistance amplified and applied to the coils. The spot may be elongated electrostatically instead of electromagnetically. Specification 665,096 is referred to.
