741,888. Automatic catches. AMAL, Ltd. April 30, 1954 [May 15, 1953], No. 13640/53. Class 44. A fastening for a motor vehicle bonnet comprises a channel-section keeper plate 9 fixed to the bonnet flap 3 and adapted to latch with the head 31 of a pivoted latch lever 29 that can be unlatched from the keeper plate 9 by manually-operable means such as a pushbutton 43, a spring 53 being disposed between the flap 3 and side wall 1 of the bonnet to partially open the bonnet flap 3 when the fastening is unlatched. The latch lever 29 is a tight fit in a cylindrical shaft 23 which is journalled at its ends and mounted to pivot between the side flanges of a bracket 17. A split collar 33 on one end of the latch lever 29 is connected to the push-button 43 which is urged by a spring 47 so as to hold the lever 29 latched with the keeper plate 9.
