Class 44 A hood latch assembly for motor vehicles and the like of the kind which comprises an apertured latch plate 10 arranged to receive a keeper 21 and a latch bolt 60 pivotally mounted on the plate so as to engage the keeper and hold the latter in its latched position has an operating lever 80 pivotally mounted at or near one of its ends to the latch plate and provided with an abutment 82 adjacent this end for the purpose of actuating the latch bolt upon movement of the lever towards the unlatched position, the end of the lever remote from its pivotal mounting having an integrally formed safety hook 100. The keeper 21 has a stem 25 and a conical enlargement 26 underneath which a tongue 70 on the latch bolt 60 engages. The keeper passes through a guide 31 which is made in the form of a cup and which is attached to the latch plate 10. The latch bolt 60 is generally U-shaped and is pivotally supported on the latch plate 10 by loose rivets, one of the rivets also supporting the operating lever 80. The latch bolt is leaded by a coiled spring 51 into engagement with the keeper 31. In the engaged condition of the assembly the hook 100 is received in an aperture 103 in a plate member 15 which carries the keeper 21 and it is urged to this position by a spring 93. The operating lever is provided with a handle 85 adjacent the hook 100. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 693,341, 733,985 and 750,945.
