Abstract
538,488. Fastenings. BASSICK CO. Feb. 2, 1940, No. 2113: Convention date, Feb. 3, 1939. [Class 44] A fastening for the hood 10 of a car bonnet comprises a shaft 36, 38 rotatably mounted on a support 33 in the bonnet and having at each end a catch 39 adapted to engage hooks 27 on a bracket 25, carried by the hood. The shaft 36 has a crank 37 connected by a pull rod 41, 43 to a hand lever 51 on the dash 14, so that when 51 is operated, 37 is turned anti-clockwise to release 39 from 27, while at the same time the forward end of the part 41 engages an inclined surface 31 on the bracket 25 and lifts the hood to a small extent. The weight of the hood holds the push rod in the forward position until the hood is raised further by hand, then a spring 57 restores it and the shaft 36 to their original position. When the hood is closed, the parts 39 slide on inclined surfaces 28 and then snap over the hooks 27. In another form, the lever 51 turns on a vertical axis.
