[Class 44] A fastening particularly for motor-car bonnets comprises a hooked lever pivoted within the bonnet with one arm extending out therethrough so that release can be effected by raising the arm, the hook being loaded by a spring which passes over the dead-centre to hold the hook in each of its extreme positions, and the arrangement being such that the hook engages automatically on closing the bonnet with the hook in either of its extreme positions. As shown an operating arm 9 with curled outer handle 9a and curved inner end has lateral webs 9b which are extended within the cover 7 to form a pair of parallel off-set hooks 9c (one visible). The hooks are pivoted by pins 10 to lugs 8a forming extensions of the side webs of an apertured channel-section bracket 8 secured to the inner surface of cover 7. The device is loaded by a spring 11 disposed between the hooks and passing the pivots 10 in moving between extreme positions. The hooks co-operate with an aperture 12c in a plate 12 adjustably mounted by bolt and slot connection at 14 on the frame 13, the upper end 12a of the plate being off-set towards core 7. If the cover be closed with the device in the released position, Fig: 4, the inner curved end of arm 9 abuts against the part 12a and throws the device over clockwise into engaging position, and if closed in the engaging position, Fig. 5, the inclined surfaces 9d of the hooks snap into engagement. A modification is described with the spring extending upwards from the hooks.
