My invention relates to door latches, being designed primarily to form an effective latch wherein the operating handle of the latch forms a suitable engaging handle for opening the door and is rigidly secured with the latch roper. By means of this simple constructlon the latch is disengaged from the keeper by engaging the handle and pressing downward and while in this depressed position of the handle orelevated position of the latch the door may be opened by an outward pull of the handle. In a simple con struction of a latch of this nature it is very desirable to have an effective fastening means which is adaptable to refrigerators or other uses where a latch of this nature is desired in connection with a closure and particularly a fastener designed so that it can be used for large or small refrigerators with equal eh'ectiveness and which will not get out of order.
A. further object of the invention is in fastening means for preventing the operation of the latch, which may be made of suiticient use and particularly for the reason that in a latch of this nature considerable leverage can be socured by the operating handle.
The fastener is primarily designed with stop means which is pivoted in a manner to he swung into the path of operation of the operating handle to prevent the downward. movement of the same, or the stop means can he moved out of position to allow the free operation of the latch operating handle.

The stop is adapt ed to form suitable means for supporting a loch when out of handle engaging position, which. feature is important, particularly, as it is an essential object of the invention to provide means for holding the fastener to prevent its loss when disengaged from the operating handle. This construction provides means wherein a separate loch can be used to engage the operating handle and stop in a manner to lock the same together with the stop means ositioned in the path at movement of the smile to prevent the operation of the same. It is of primary importance in this invention to provide means to prevent any movement of the latch in a direction to disengage it from the keeper,

The arm A is constructed at its outer end to engage a keeper ll secured near the edge of the door casing, The keeper 14 is formed with an outwardly projecting lip 15 curved downwardly and adapted to he engaged by an anti-friction roller 16 journalled in the outer end 18 of the swinging arm A to facilitate the arm being pushed over the shoulder of the keeper in closing the door The arm is pressed downward by a coiled spring 17 and is thus constantly held in place in the keeper under a yielding pressure when the door is closed to prevent the accidental dis placement of the same.
The handle 10 is formed with extending ear 18 which acts as preventing pivotal movement of the swing mg arm i when the same is engaged by a stop lever 19 secured to the fastener casing ll. The lever 19 is pivoted between ears mo 20 extending laterally from the fastener casrag and is adapted to swing towards and away from the handle 10. When the stop lever 19 is swung towards the handle 10 it engages underneath the car 18 thereby preres venting downward movement of the handle 10 so as to keep the outer end ll of the latch in engagement with the keeper 1d to hold the door in fastened position. The car 18 is provided with an aperature 21 which a laterally registers with a similar aperture-22 formed in the lever 19 and both of these apertures are of a sufiicient size to receive the shackle 23 of a pad-lock of ordinary construction to provide means for holding the latch in locked position. The lever 19 is formed with oppositely extending cam surfaces 24 which are adapted to engage a spring member 25 secured to the astener casing 10 to provide means for holding the stop lever in proper osition when out of engagement with the handle or in position to engage the handle to revent its 0 ration.

I claim:
1. In a device of the class described, a fastener casing and a latch pivoted to said fastener casin a keeper adapted to be engaged b sai latch, a stop lever pivoted to said astenercasing adapted to hold said latch inoperative when said lever is swung into engagement with said latch.
2. A refrigerator fastener comprising a fastener casing .a latch pivoted to said astener casing, a eeper adapted to be engaged by said latch, a stop lever pivoted to said fastener casing adapted to engage said latch to hold the same against opening movement.
3. A latch fastener including a keeper, a casing, means secured to said casing adapted'to form a stop to prevent disengagement of the latch from the keeper, said means being pivotally held to be swung out of or into the ath of operation of said latch to allow sa' latch to be disengaged from or locked in engagement with said keeper.
4. A latch fastener in combination with a keeperv including anoperating handle and a stop associated therewith in a manner to be swung beneath said handle, said stop being adapted to be engaged b a adlock to secure the same to the latc to ock the latch against disengagement from the kee r.
5. A fastener including a pivote a ring operated latch, a keeper for said late an operatin handle on said latch, an eye formed in said handle, and a pivoted stop lever adapted to swing into position to register with the eye on said handle in a manner to receive'a pad-lock for locking the latch into engagement with said keeper.
6. A fastener including a lever handle latch, a spring for holding said latch into operative position, a keeper, a lug projecting from the handle portion of said latch having an opening therein and a lug adapted to swing in a horizontal plane into or out of engagement with said lug and having an opening adapted to coincide with the opening in said lug when the same are registering with each other to receive a pad-lock for the pur oses specified.
7. A astener including a supporting casing, a latch lever pivoted to said casing, a keeper, a stop lug pivoted to swing in a horizontal plane into engagement with the handle end of said latch and spring means adapted to hold said stop lug into position to engage the handle of said latch in or out of engagement therewith.

9.In a device of the class described, a pivoted latch member, a handle thereon, a
pivoted member adapted to swing into the ath of movement of said handle, cam suraces upon said pivoted member and a spring cooperating with said cam surfaces to hold said pivoted member in operative or inoperative position.
