Abstract

741,316. Pirns; locating pirns on spindles. ASHTON BROS. & CO., Ltd. March 11, 1954 [March 12, 1953], No. 6784/53. Classes 120 (2) and 120'(3). In order to obtain in spinning frames &c. a standard axial height of the pirns relatively to the yarn-feeding devices, with a non-slip driving engagement between the spindle and pirn, the latter is provided within its lower end with a rubber or like resilient bush having formations, such as cavities or recesses, which allow it to deform if and when its internal bore is expanded, as when the pirn is being forced on to t spindle. As shown, a rubber &c. bush 12 is fitted into the enlarged bore 11 at the lower end of a pirn 10, the bush being provided with longi tudinal grooves 13 separated by rectangular sectioned ribs 14, the outer ends of which are bevelled off at 15 and 16. The inner end of the bush may also be bevelled off at its outer corner 17. If desired, the grooves 13 may be helica and cavities in the form of longitudinal holes within the wall thickness of the bush may be provided instead of or in addition to the oper grooves. The bush may also be formed with external annular grooves. To ensure locatior of the pirns in the correct position on the spindles, a gauge in the form of a flat metal bar 18, Fig. 4, having a number of notches 19, 20 ir one edge thereof may be used.
