Abstract
740,827. Pickling metals. PATENTS & INVESTMENTS, Ltd. Feb. 22, 1954 [Feb. 21, 1953],'No. 4894/53. Class 82 (2). Apparatus for pickling bars comprises a bath, a bar-supporting cradle or cradles and a mechanism for raising and lowering the cradle in the bath, the mechanism being power-driven in such a manner that, in a repeating cycle of operations, the cradle is raised slowly and then lowered rapidly or dropped, so as to impart movement to the bars immersed in the bath. Cradles A are composed of articulated links and are elevated by bell-crank levers 20. The levers may be operated simultaneously or in sequence to impart a transverse movement to the bars. Ramps 32 are provided so that, when the cradle is in its lowest position (chain-dotted in Fig. 3), the bars will rest thereon, there being further agitated by the sideways rolling motion. The bell-cranks are operated by crank-discs 24 freely mounted on a shaft 25 and driven by segments 28 thereon engaging an abutment 31 on the crank-discs so that, when the abutments have been carried to the top dead centre of the crank discs, then they freely disengage the driving segments and the cradle descends rapidly.
