740,384. Heating or cooling loose fibrous material. AKTIEBOLAGET SVENSKA FLAKTFABRIKEN. March 24, 1953 [March 28, 1952], No. 8095/53. Class 64(2). [Also in Group XXX] A cylindrical drum 2 is mounted within another cylindrical drum 1, one or both being rotatable and one or both having a heated or cooled surface, for treating loose fibrous material such as carboxymethylcellulose by pressure contact with the surfaces. Further, to press the material, longitudinal fins 8 on the inner drum 2 are inclined backwards with respect to the direction of rotation and are spaced and staggered. There are fins 11 on each domed end-wall some of which join to longitudinal fins 8. When used for continuous treatment, the material is fed in through an inlet 4a and discharged at an outlet 5b, while in batch treatment, an inlet 4b and an outlet 5a may be used also.
