A fastening for a vehicle luggage boot cover, engine bonnet or the like, comprises the combination of a basepiece a adapted to be attached to one of the parts to be inter-connected, a spindle e in the base-piece, a spring i loading the spindle in one direction about its axis, a catch b on the spindle having a gap c for engagement with a pin d on the other of said parts, a member b on the spindle having a radial edge h and a manually retractably spring-loaded and slidable bolt j for engagement with the radial edge. The bolt is moved to release the catch by a cable n.
