740,211. Blinds. BERNI, 0. Feb. 12, 1954 [Feb. 14, 1953], No. 4232/54. Class 20(3). - A venetian blind of the kind comprising slats 12 supported at each end on alternately arranged cross pieces 11 between carrier tapes 9, 10 and raised or lowered, in known manner, by cords 3 passing through slots 12a in the slats and over rollers 2 housed in a head rail 1, the tapes 9, 10 being connected to shafts 8 rotatable in opposite directions by a cord 5 wound round a drum 4, geared to the shafts 8 for varying the inclination of the slats is characterised in that, the width of each slat is greater than the free length of a cross piece 11, notches 13 being provided in the outer edges 12b of the slats to receive the tapes 9 so that when the slats are inclined in their fully closed position each slat contacts the upper convex surface of the underlying slat. The rear tape 10 may be wider than the tape 9 to stop any light infiltrating past the notches 13 when the blind is closed. Notches to receive the tapes 10 may be formed in the rear edges of the slats. The slots 12a may be reinforced around their edges.
