Abstract
739,633. Venetian blinds. BERNI, O. Feb. 12, 1954 [Feb. 14, 1953], No. 4233/54. Class 20 (3). A venetian blind of the type comprising a head rail 1 containing drive rollers, not shown, for lift cords 2, which are united in a string 3 for raising and lowering the blind, and a drum 4, connected through gearing 6, 7, to two shafts 8 to which are connected two pairs of tapes 9, 10 which carry, on cross-pieces 11, the slats of the blind, the drum being rotatable in either direction by a cord 5 which is wound round it for tilting the slats, is characterized in that each main slat is composed of a pair of slats 12, 14, the upper slat 14 of each pair being notched at 15 to permit an outward sliding movement across the underlying slat 12, when the slats are tilted into their closed position, so that the forward edges 14a of the slats 14 project beyond the tapes 10 to contact the upper faces of the underlying slats and completely intercept the passage of light through the blind. The inner tapes 9 may be wider than the outer tapes 10. Each of the slats 12, 14 may be provided with notches in their rear edges to accommodate the tapes 9 so that they can slide and project toward the inside of the blind as the latter is opened. The slats 12, 14 are slotted at 13, 16 to receive the cords 2.
