739,564. Electric heating panels and plates. SOC. ANON. DES MANUFACTURES DES GLACES ET PRODUITS CHIMIQUES DE ST.-GOBAIN, CHAUNY & CIREY. June 9, 1954 [June 23, 1953], No. 16983/54. Class 39 (3). A glass plate or panel 1 has a heating element of aluminium or aluminium alloy sprayed on to one of its surfaces, the element being in the form of laterally spaced closed loops 7 connected in series near their centres. When the panel is used in an upright position, the top half of the panel tends to become hotter than the lower half due to convection, and the resistance of the upper section of each loop 7 becomes greater than the resistance of the lower section, the resulting reduction of current in the upper loop sections counteracting the convection effect. Non-uniform application of the resistance material and consequent development of hotspots is also compensated for by the seriesparallel heater circuit. In a further embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), a food warming tray is provided with a thermostat for controlling its overall temperature, but local overheating is counteracted as before.
