658,469. Glass. WAMBREUZE, O. Oct. 3, 1949, No. 25419. [Class 56] In the annealing or toughening of glass sheets or articles, it is arranged for the heating or cooling air to be heated or cooled by rising in contact with heaters 15 or coolers 21 and then to descend along the faces of the glass so that the heating or cooling is effected substantially entirely by convection. As shown, the heating takes place in three zones I of increasing temperature, and each zone is divided into a number of sections S. Fans 13 draw the heated or cooled air through a perforated sheet 20 at the top of the sections and, after passage over the glass, return it to the bottom of the sections through a perforated plate 33.
