An electric coil is made by winding insulated wire together with a thread of a thermoplastic material which softens at a moderate temperature when heat is applied during or after winding, pressure being applied if required. The thread comprises an untwisted or slightly twisted bundle of filaments wound on to the wire. The wire insulation may be a polyvinyl acetal, e.g. polyvinyl formal lacquer, and the thermoplastic material may be nylon.
