739,050. Tubular heat-exchangers. HUET, A. Nov. 28, 1951, No. 27911/51. Class 64 (3). Relates to heat-exchangers comprising parallel tubes a each provided with diametricallyopposed fins b, c and disposed in rows with the tubes of one row staggered in relation to the tubes of an adjacent row, the external fluid flowing transversely over the tubes. According to the invention, the tips of the fins of adjacent tubes in a row are closely disposed but not in contact, the fins being so profiled as to provide between successive rows of tubes, sinuous passages A for the external fluid having wider portions alternating with narrower portions C-D to produce variations in the speed of flow and in the pressure of the external fluid. To produce the desired effect, the profiles of the respective fins b, c may be dissymetric (Fig. 1) in which the fin b is thicker than the fin c, or the fins b, c may be identical in profile and thickened at their edge portions as shown in Fig. 2. In a further alternative, dissymetry of the fins b, c may be combined with irregular staggering of the tubes. The fins b, c may be hollow or solid and they may be integral with or attached or welded to the tubes. Specification 729,113 is referred to.
