Abstract

A composition for simultaneously phosphating and lubricating metal, particularly ferrous metal to be subjected to cold plastic deformation, comprises, per 100 parts by volume, 1-3 parts by volume of orthophosphoric or hypophosphorous acid, 5-30 parts by weight of one or more saturated straight chain fatty acids having a chain length of at least 12 C atoms, or their glycerides, at least 50 parts by volume of mineral spirits and 20-30 parts by volume of blending solvent, volume to weight being as c.c.s. to gms. Water should not exceed 2 per cent by volume. The fatty acid may be stearic, lauric or myristic; the blending solvent methyl isobutyl carbinol, butyl carbinol or butyl or hexyl "Cellosolve" (Registered Trade Mark); the mineral spirits kerosene, Stoddard solvent, high flash naphtha or hydrogenated petroleum solvent. Specification 625,297 is referred to.ALSO:A composition for simultaneously phosphating and lubricating metal, particularly ferrous metal to be subjected to cold plastic deformation comprises, per 100 parts by volume, 1-3 parts by volume of orthophosphoric or hypophosphorous acid, 5-30 parts by weight of one or more saturated straight chain fatty acids having a chain length of at least 12 c atoms, or their glycerides, at least 50 parts by volume of mineral spirits and 20-30 parts by volume of blending solvent, volume to weight being as c.c.s. to gms.
