Abstract
738,599. Aerials. WOLSEY TELEVISION, Ltd. Jan. 7, 1954 [Jan. 22, 1953], No. 1931/53. Class 40 (7). An aerial system comprising a dipole and director or reflector is supported by a cross-bar of angular (preferably square) cross-section with appropriate mounting brackets so that the correct alignment of the elements is positively determined and maintained. As shown a square cross-bar 1 of tubular section and with rounded corners carries at each of its ends a bracket 4 having a square section central opening for the bar 1 and diverging cylindrical openings 5 and 6 for the dipole or parasitic rod elements. The bracket 4 is preferably constructed in two symmetrical halves held together by bolts 7 and wing-nuts 9 which, when tightened, ensure that the elements and bar 1 are firmly gripped. To mount the system on top of a mast 12 of circular section a " T " bracket as shown in Fig. 1 may be used. This has a square opening through the transverse part 14 to receive the bar 1 and a circular section socket part 15 for the top of the mast 12. This bracket is also preferably formed in two symmetrical halves held together by bolts 20 passing through the bar 1 and carrying wing nuts 21 and by bolt 16 passing through a diametrical hole in the mast and circumferential slots 18 in bosses 19 on each half of the bracket. Slots 18 enable the system to be aligned in azimuth after assembly after which wing nut 17 is tightened to retain the aerial in correct alignment. An alternative form of bracket for mounting the bar 1 on mast 12 comprises a closed cylindrical mast cap having a rectangular section groove 24 diametrically across its end 23 and an upper cap 25 with a similar groove in it which when secured to the mast cap forms a square section opening 26 in which the bar 1 can be clamped. The arrangement is secured to the mast by set-screws passing through holes 30. Specification 733,010 is referred to.
