Abstract

793,552. Aerials. CHERRINGTON, G. L. A. June 21, 1956 [June 21, 1955], No. 17853/55. Class 40 (7). An aerial capable of receiving signals in two frequency bands comprises two pairs of tubular elements, 1 and 2, 3 and 4, one of each pair being mounted on and electrically connected to each of two parallel conductors 10 which are secured by but insulated from a support clamp 16 and 17. The elements are closed at their outer ends by plugs 5 and the elements of one pair 1, 2 are longer than those of the other pair. Each element is socketed on to a split spigot 6 formed integrally with a pierced mounting ear 9. Each conductor 10 comprises a bolt having a head 10a against which butts mounting ear 9 for element 3 or 4. The rounded section of this ear (see Fig. 2) fits into a diametric groove in an insulating sleeve 11 fitted on the rod. A second insulating sleeve 12 follows and then the bolt is threaded into the tapped hole in ear 9 for rod 1 or 2 as the case may be. A lock-nut 13 and terminal 15 for securing the feeder completes the assembly. The adjoining portions of insulators 11 and 12 are of reduced diameter and fit in parallel grooves in the faces of clamp-pieces 16 and 17. The clamp is mounted on a bracket 22 which can be attached to any suitable support by screws 23. The domed head of this bracket has a slot 19 in it through which projects a bolt 18 and on to the bolt are secured the clamppieces 16, 17 by wing nut 21. The aerial is thus capable of considerable adjustment; the bolt 18 may be moved angularly round the domed head of the bracket in the slot 19, the clamp may be rotated on the bolt 18 and the elements may be rotated individually about the axis of conductors 10. It is preferred to arrange the rods as a straight dipole to receive the stronger signals and those to receive the other frequency band as a V dipole.
