Abstract
738,434. Converting; automatic voltage control systems. HEWITTIC. June 18, 1953 [Aug. 1, 1952], No. 16839/53. Classes 38 (2) and 38 (4). In an inverter circuit of the kind forming the subject of Specification 697,367, in which condensers 6, 8 are respectively connected in parallel and in series with the load 5, in order to stabilize the output voltage despite fluctuations in the input direct voltage 1 and at low or zero loads, a variable inductor 9 or equivalent is connected across the output terminals. A further condenser 10 in parallel with inductor 9 may be provided. The inductor 9 may comprise two series-connected chokes with saturable cores carrying reversely-connected biasing windings fed from the supply 1, Fig. 2 (not shown), or from the inverter output through an auxiliary rectifier. The control may be manual or automatic, an adjustable resistor being varied by an automatic regulator responsive to the output voltage, or the auxiliary rectifier may have grids so controlled that the saturating current varies very rapidly when the inverter alternating voltage exceeds a set value. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the output transformer 3 and the variable inductor are replaced by an autotransformer with two saturable cores bearing two biasing windings so connected as to prevent induction in them of A.C. The voltage to the capacitors is stepped up to reduce their size and stepped down through another transformer feeding the load.
