737,846. Converting. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. Nov. 30, 1953, No. 33163/53. Class 38 (2). In a D.C. power transmission line connecting a rectifier and inverter, associated with each smoothing inductor is a second inductor of the same order of magnitude to which is connected a resistor and, if desired, a capacitor, whereby overvoltages due to oscillations following a disturbance of operating conditions are kept to a sufficiently low value. The second inductor 5 may be connected in series with the smoothing inductor 4, and have in parallel with it, resistor 6, and capacitor 7 and resistor 8, Fig. 1. The capacity C of capacitor 7 should be of the same order of magnitude as the line capacitance, and the resistance of resistor 6 should be of the order of magnitude #L/C, where L is the inductance of either inductor. Alternatively as shown in Fig. 2 the second inductor 10 may be connected in parallel with smoothing inductor 9, and have in series with it resistor 13 and capacitor 11 with its parallel connected resistor 12. The two inductors 9, 10 together have the value of the desired smoothing reactance. So that the values of the other components and of the insulation may be selected as desired, they may be connected in auto-transformer (Fig. 3, not shown) or full transformer (Fig. 4, not shown) connection.
