Abstract

1367571 Reactive current converters ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 17 Jan 1972 [18 Jan 1971] 2077/72 Heading H2F A reactive current converter comprises a pair of line-commutated converters A, B, connected across an A.C. line RST and having the D.C. sides connected in anti-parallel via a pair of inductors R1, R2. As described, power is supplied to the line RST by an inverter C, having a capacitor battery K. Reactive current is supplied by converters A, B, operating with differing control angles so that they respectively act as rectifier and inverter. Parts of inductors R1 and R2 may be saturable so that the inductance becomes decreased as the current increases. The reactive current may be monitored by transformers ST and converted by unit M into a reactive power signal, which is compared at J with a signal Pref representing desired reactive power, the resultant controlling the conduction angle of converters A, B. The arrangement is stated to result in reduced harmonic content compared with a single reactive current converter. In Fig. 4 (not shown) inductors are included in series with the source C so that automatic voltage regulation is achieved by control of reactive power. Alternatively, the unbalance in the line RST may be corrected by appropriate control of the control angles of converters A, B.
