Abstract

1,106,583. Converting; control of A.C. motors. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERK, A.G. 30 Aug., 1966 [28 Aug. 1965], No. 38715/66. Headings H2F and H2J. An inverter comprising main controlled rectifiers 4 to 9 supplies a polyphase motor 2. The main elements are turned off by commutating capacitors 10, 11, 12 and auxiliary controlled rectifiers 13 to 18. The arrangement is such that when a main controlled rectifier has been turned off one capacitor and the portion of the motor winding then in series with that capacitor form an oscillatory circuit which turns off the corresponding auxiliary controlled rectifier. The commutating capacitors also provide the reactive power required by the motor. The inverter may be supplied from a halfcontrolled rectifier bridge using gate turn off switches 23, 24, 25 and diodes 26, 27, 28 so that the arrangement becomes a frequency changer.
