Abstract

1287648 Control of A.C. motors SIEMENS AG 7 Oct 1970 [7 Oct 1969] 47770/70 Heading H2J A three-phase synchronous motor of the reluctance type comprises an unwound salientpole rotor 2, the stator 3 having exciting coils 6, 7 and a three-phase winding 9 of the singlelayer type and arranged in open slots 8. Each turn of the winding 9 has a peripheral extent substantially equal to that of the poles of the rotor. Both the stator and rotor are laminated. The motor is normally operated from a threephase source 10 through a rectifier 11 and inverter 12, the coils 6, 7, being arranged in the intermediate circuit. The motor is self-commutating and its speed is controlled by varying the firing times of the rectifiers in the group 11, For starting the motor, a change-over switch 13 is moved to its left-hand position so that the rectifier and inverter are re-grouped to form two two anti-parallel three-phase bridges constituting an A.C. line commutated converter. This converter is supplied from a single-phase transformer 14, the coils 6, 7, being each connected in series with one of the bridges. The change-over of switch 13 to its first position may be effected automatically in accordance with time or speed. In another arrangement, the rectifier and inverter each comprise three star-connected thyristors, an excitation winding being connected to the star-point of the three-phase winding and to a neutral of the mains supply, Fig. 3 (not shown). In a further embodiment, the rectifier group comprises both controlled and uncontrolled elements, Fig. 4 (not shown).
