Abstract

The battery DC input to this converter is switched by two transistors (1, 2) into an energy storage circuit of inductances (5, 6) and diodes (3, 4). The transistor bases (A, B) are switched from a control circuit generator giving H.F. pulses for periods varying between 5 and 150 microseconds, dependent upon the instantaneous value of a generated 50Hz signal. One transistor saturates on positive cycles and the other on negative cycles. The 220V 50Hz output is supplied via an isolating transformer (7) and feedback to the control circuit can stabilise the output. This circuit can give an energy efficiency of 92% at full load with (+-) 1% regulation.
