Abstract
567,923. Automatic regulation. PARTINGTON, W., and METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. June 29, 1943, No. 10569. [Class 38 (iv)] The voltage on an A.C. load circuit is maintanied constant by connecting in series across the load circuit terminals 11, 12 a saturable reactor 1 and an unsaturated reactor 20, the supply source 9, 10 being connected to both circuits through a reactance 13. The saturating windings 7, 8 of the reactor 1 are connected across the reactor 20 through a rectifier 17, preferably with a swamping resistance 18, for reducing the effect of temperature changes. The purpose of the reactor 20 is the reduction or elimination of voltage changes due to variations of source frequency. A resistor having a non-linear current voltage characteristic may be included in circuit with the saturating windings 7, 8 to increase the variation of saturating current with changes in the current in the main windings 5, 6 of the reactor 1 ; this resistor may be in shunt to a part of the resistance 18 lying between the rectifier and the windings 7, 8. A damping winding 19 may be employed. A system of this character may be applied to the load circuit of an alternator, Fig. 4 (not shown), having an exciting winding fed through a rectifier from the load circuit terminals and, in parallel, through another rectifier from a current transformer in series with the load. Specification 561,289 is referred to.
